General information
Surat Thani Province is the largest province in South region of Thailand. The province is located on the east coast of Thailand. The distance from Bangkok is about 645 kilometers, and Surat Thani covers an area approximately 13,079 square kilometers (include the large islands like Samui, Pha-ngan and Ang Thong Island).
The name "Surat Thaini" (or well-known as Surat for short) means "City of the Good People". In the past, the province was the capital city of the Srivijaya Empire. Today, Surat Thani is one of the best destination in Thailand; it is the location of several famous islands and beaches.
Interesting
The three outstanding islands of the country belong the province. Samui island, Pha-ngan island, and a group of islands which is well-known as Mu Koh Ang Thong are the best attractions of the province. Enchanting scenery, night life activities and charming beaches with natural coral reefs and clear water can be seen along the islands.
Not only beaches and islands but also the culture is the attraction. Cause of the province was the capital of the prosperous empire in the past, the province has its own culture which tourists can't find from other provinces. Furthermore, historical places in the province are also the charming destinations of province.
