South region of Thailand |
General Information South region is located on the narrow of Malay Peninsula and between South China Sea on the east and Andaman Sea on the west side. The long peninsula is rich in natural destinations including seveal islands, beaches, mountains, waterfalls and caves. On Northernmost of the peninsula is Chumphon province and on Southernmost is Malaysia. The region contains 14 famous province, and all province (except Yala province) have its own seacoast. The region is the most popular region in Thailand, it attracts the highest number of tourists every year. It contains many famous destinations of Asia and the world. For example Phi Phi island is one of the best destinations in the world. People know it from the movie "The Beach".
Geography South region covers an are approximately 70,800 square kilometers. Most areas of the region are plain and long coastlines which are located on the east and west side of region. Others are several mountain ranges, island groups and islands. Phuket province is the largest island of the region and country. Tanaosri, Phuket, Nakhon Si Thammarat and San Krala Kriri mountain range are the important mountain ranges of the region. San Krala Kriri is also the natural border between Thailand and Malaysia. The important rivers of the region such as Pum Duang, Tapi, Pattani, Tha Thong, Takua Pa, Pak Phanang and Trang river have the origin on these mountain ranges. Boundary On the north side of the region borders Prachuap Kriri Khan province of Central region and Myanmar.
Weather There are 2 seasons in the region including summer and rainy season. Each province has the different season time. Interesting South region contains many best destinations in the world because of it is rich in perfect natural resources. Both west and east coastline are the location of several world class islands and beaches, such as, Koh Samui, Mu Koh Phi Phi, Koh Pha-ngan, Phuket and many more. After Tsunami Disaster in 2004 many provinces also continue the development of hotels, resorts and security for many tourists from around the world. Tourists will enjoy the trip in the region because of this region appropriates for many types of travellers. Several activities such as full moon party, scuba diving hiking, night life and many more are prepared for travellers all of the year. Fresh seafood amd great restaurants can be found throughout the region. In addition, Not only the sea attraction but also other places and activities surprise the tourists; for instance, magnificent waterfalls, ancient temples in Nakhon Si Thammarat, ancient mosques in Narathiwat, several national parks, local people culture, seafood, local food and local festivals are the little parts of the attrations here.
